The new computer has finally arrived. The casing looks great and impressive. I am less impressed by the fact that the DVD writer supplied is IDE. I am not bothered by it though as I have a Asus DVD Writer with SATA connectivity.

The Specification
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200
Motherboard: Asus P5KPL-AM
Memory: 2GB Corsair XMS-2
Harddisk: Hitachi 500GB
Casing: Antec 300
Power Supply: EZCool Tornado 700W
DVD: Unbranded DVD Writer

The Hardware
Everything looks as expected. There are plenty of room for upgrading and the 700W power supply will be more than enough for current configuration as well as adding an additional graphic card or more hard disks in the future.

After a few days of discussion, Mee and I came to a conclusion to purchase a computer base unit from DinoPC. The price was competitive than the other online sellers that I have looked at. For example, the previous AMD system which I had listed out parts by parts would be cheaper if I bought the parts separately. However, when I looked at Dell and DinoPC which allow customers to customise some hardware of a selected system, they turned out to be offering quite the same price if I were to buy the parts separately.

Dell VS DinoPC
Dell computers are value for money but I just do not like the motherboard supplied and motherboard is one of the parts that have no other selections. On the other hand, DinoPC has offered a slightly better but basic motherboard. The prices from both Dell and DinoPC are more or less the same but the hardware and software are what separates them. For the price of slightly less than £300, I get a Vista Home Edition license on a Dell PC. With DinoPC custom built computer at roughly the same price as Dell, I get a better power supply, better RAM, better casing and better motherboard in exchange for a Vista Home Edition license. I think it is worth the price.

Coming down to the motherboard part, there are too many technologies to learn and most of the time, I cannot be bothered to know all of them. You know, there are SLI, Crossfire, AMD Live! Ready, AM2+, AM3, Temperature control (TC), voltage control (VC), dual-channel support, RAID, SATA, eSATA, fan control (FC), overclock (OC) and more. Wow, it looks like a BMW that has traction control (TC), climate control, sports function, ABS, SRS airbags, ICE and the likes.

AMD Motherboard Players
Currently, there are only two motherboard chipset manufacturers for AMD processor; AMD itself and Nvidia. The latest chipset model by AMD is 790 series while for Nvidia, it is 8300 chipset. Since reading the reviews, there are a lot of bad experiences with AMD motherboard controllers while Nvidia seems to be less problematic.
