This is certainly a family with young children type of movie. No violence (except some dog fight), quite funny and a bunch of talking dogs. Well, luckily, they are just translations of dog’s words. The human in the movie does not understand the dog’s conversations except ‘woof’. But this movie does surprise me.

Beverly Hills, as you may have known, is a posh area in the United States of America. But Beverly Hills Chihuahua, as the name indicated, focuses on Chihuahuas; small and tiny little dogs. They are pampered with perfumes, manicure, pedicure, clothes, toys and accessories. The main dog-actress, Chloe, is carried around by her owner Viv, in a Louis Vuitton’s dog carrier and she uses Chanel No.5. Classy!

One day, Viv has to go on a business trip. She has no choice but to leave Chloe in Rachel’s guardian. Rachel is Viv’s niece and she thinks that Chloe is arrogant. Apparently, Chloe thinks of Rachel the same; arrogant. The list of things to do for Chloe’s everyday life has have Rachel even more fed up and she never cares about it the moment Viv leaves the house.

One phone call and Rachel is off to Mexico with her friends and of course, Chloe. One mistake, Chloe is dognapped and gone into the reality world of dogs. Luckily for Chloe, There are good dogs around to help her going through the bad times and she becomes stronger.

The Story
Beverly Hills Chihuahua began by picturing the life of posh dogs like how their owner treated them and I am sure their life was much better than some people are. Soon, the posh dog, Chloe was transformed into a normal dog and how she fought for her life with the help of other dogs she befriended just showed that she could be strong too.

There were nothing exaggerated and it did not leave me puzzling in the end. Well, like any movies, Beverly Hills Chihuahua has a happy ending. Dogs that talked certainly make more sense in order for viewers to understand what was going on.

The Effects
There were some funny characters and you would really laugh when you saw them. The rat and the iguana were a nice pair while the dog’s mouths movement when they talked was quite common. Erm… the lioness in the desert were a bit too much but the group of Chihuahuas was funny.

The Verdict
To me, Beverly Hills Chihuahua was about the transformation of a posh dog to a strong and independent dog. The journey of Chloe was interesting to watch. From start to end, they fitted well. From the moment Chloe was dognapped, it was not only about her survival, but the search for her was on. In addition, Rachel needed to find Chloe before Viv was back from her business trip.

All in all, Beverly Hills Chihuahua was nice to watch and it was not just some boring talking dogs as I had expected in the first place.
