This blog was down during weekends and yesterday too. Well, I do not have the control of it but hopefully, this will be the longest downtime ever. Previously, I only got a maximum of a day’s downtime but this time is quite ridiculous. My last update was on the third of December. Many things happened and I thought of updating during the weekend but the host ran into some problems.

I do not have much update because I have restored my Mac OS X to a clean installation backup. Previously, installation of new programs had made the WiFi failed. I knew that I have to restore it when the repair disk permission failed too. Till then, I will make a backup again before I install any programs.

When I was having my lunch, I suddenly thought of a game that will work well on my Samsung NC10. It is the UEFA Champions League Season 2000. Okay, it is an eight years old game but I really enjoyed playing it last time. It is not complicated to play and I am sure that it will keep me company for a long time. By the way, I still have the saved games in my external drive but I need to dig out the CD from my stack of CDs!

Nine days after the installation of Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.5 iDeneb v1.3 edition and four days of fiddling around with the drivers and settings, I manage to get the WiFi working. Thanks for the help that I got from InsanelyMac forum. Well, forum is really a good place to look for information. People always have different ideas when come to test a system and different system acts differently too. With the help of community, we will be able to know what works and what does not work for different types of systems. Sadly, there are minority of them tend to provide wrong information. Thus, it will be up to us to know who the ones to be trusted are.

Before you read on:
IO80211family.kext – A modified kext that enable the detection of Atheros WiFi chipsets
Kernel Panic – A message that urge the user to switch off the machine and restart

What I did yesterday was quite similar to my first few attempts. One missing step would be the deletion of system kext cache. I suspect that my system kext cache somehow corrupted during the installation and that affected the installation of IO80211family.kext. However, removing the system kext cache will cause kernel panic and each time I deleted the system kext cache, I got around three to four kernel panics before able to boot into the desktop properly.

I will soon provide a guide with pictures. But before this, I need to make a few experiments to see if there is a shorter way. A rough guide is available HERE.

When I was small, Ultraman was my favourite. Naturally, superheroes films were very exciting to watch. Exciting? Erm… thinking back, almost every episode was the same old sequence. A monster terrorises the city, city cops unable to match the monster, Ultraman intervenes, Ultraman loses at first, Ultraman recharges, Ultraman releases final power and monster dies.

Anyway, superheroes films have evolved. There is almost nothing that cannot be done through computer graphics. Ultraman and the monster were grown-up man fighting in a miniature town. Nowadays, superheroes fight in the studio with green background.

Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Batman and the likes have come out alive from the comic book stories. Even so, there is a new batch of superheroes that do not need any special costumes. It is Heroes. Well, maybe it is more suitable to call them superhuman instead.

Their mission is greater than ever. From saving the cities, and now save the world.
